During the year of 2006, the Swedish Chamber of Commerce celebrates its Centenary. Throughout the year, a number of Centenary events will take place - culminating in a Centenary Conference and a Royal Ball on 12 May 2006. Among many other prominent guests, HRH Crown Princess Victoria has graciously accepted to attend the celebrations.
The theme of the Centenary Conference and Royal Ball is ”A Century of Excellence – focus on Innovation and Entrepreneurship”, a topic that will encourage us to look ahead at the challenges facing Sweden and the UK in the years to come. The conference will include political guest speakers Margot Wallström, EU Commissioner, and Chris Patten, former Governor of Hong Kong and currently Chancellor of Oxford University. There will also be a hot seat discussion with Penny Hughes, former CEO of Coca Cola UK and board member of Vodafone, SEB, Reuters, and also Marcus Wallenberg, Chairman of SEB, among other high profile participants. Moderator of the discussion will be Carl Bildt, former Prime Minister of Sweden.
During the celebrations a Lifetime Achievement Award will be awarded to Ingvar Kamprad, founder of Ikea. An Innovation Award will be given out to Niklas Zennström, founder of Skype. HRH Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden will present both Awards. The Centenary celebrations will end with a Royal Ball at the Dorchester - with dancing and entertainment!
The Swedish Chamber of Commerce for the UK has a very positive view of the future. The chamber will carry on adapting to the ever-changing business environment, the network is constantly evolving, as are the services that the Chamber offers, in order to give the Members what they want.
A Century of Excellence - book
This book is a lavishly illustrated book in an innovative format. It celebrates the Centenary of the Swedish Chamber of Commerce for the UK.
Interviews with high profile business leaders are alternated with a retrospective of Chamber life through the last century. It also gives a glimpse into the future and into those industries and companies that will take Sweden into the next 100 years with information about Anglo-Swedish relations, accumulated over the last 10 decades.
A Century of Excellence will be of interest to the Members of the Swedish Chamber of Commerce as well as anyone who wants to find out more about the long relationship between Sweden and the UK from a business, political and social point of view.
